Patriots re-sign RB Faulk

The all-purpose back, who has been with the Patriots since being selected in the second round of the 1999 draft out of LSU, played in 15 games, making seven starts last season. He ended the campaign with 335 rushing yards and two touchdowns and added 37 receptions for 301 yards and a score.

Faulk, 33, is the Patriots all-time leader in all-purpose yards with 12,140 and kickoff return yards with 4,098. In addition he is the team's all-time leading return specialist, accumulating 5,031 combined return yards (4,098 kick return yards and 933 punt return yards).

Lions bring back OT Jansen

The 34-year-old Jansen signed with Detroit in June of 2009 after spending his first 10 NFL seasons with Washington. He played in 11 games last year, making two starts.

Originally a second round pick in the 1999 draft, Jansen proved to be very durable, starting every game until a ruptured Achilles tendon caused him to miss the entire 2004 campaign.

Jason Clark also scored 17 and Austin Freeman chipped in 16 for eighth-seeded Georgetown (22-9), which beat South Florida on Wednesday in the second round and avenged a pair of losses to Syracuse during the regular season. The Orange notched a 73-56 win on January 25 at the Carrier Dome, then held on for a 75-71 triumph on February 18 at the Verizon Center.

This marked the 13th Big East Tournament meeting between the conference's signature programs. Georgetown has now seven of those matchups.

Reyes to rest after additional tests on thyroid

The Flames vaulted ahead of Detroit in the standings by rallying for a 4-2 victory Tuesday in the Motor City, scoring three unanswered goals in the third period to erase a 2-1 deficit.

Detroit had gone in front on second-period tallies by Pavel Datsyuk and Tomas Holmstrom, but Calgary tied the contest at 2-2 when Jarome Iginla knocked home a rebound 5:45 into the final session. Rene Bourque scored the go-ahead goal less than two minutes later, and the Flames tacked on an empty-netter in the final stages to seal the outcome.

United enters into partnership with Japanese club

Chivas USA's Victorine retires

During his MLS career, Victorine scored 32 goals and 41 assists in 242 appearances with the Los Angeles Galaxy, Kansas City Wizards and Chivas USA.

"I'd like to thank all of my teammates that I've played with over the years, and all of the fans who have given me their support," Victorine said. "Growing up in Orange County, I feel lucky that I was able to play in front of my home fans for so much of my career. I am now eager to start the next phase of my career." Retiring due to persistent injuries, Victorine has accepted a front office position with Kansas City, and will also serve as the color commentator on the Wizards' television broadcasts.

IndyCar kicks off season with first-time trip to Brazil

The IndyCar Series -- with new title sponsor IZOD -- will compete in South America for the first time with the Sao Paulo Indy 300 on the streets of Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Dario Franchitti also will begin his campaign to repeat as series champion. Franchitti ended the 2009 season with an 11-point margin over his Chip Ganassi Racing teammate Scott Dixon. Four of his five wins last year came on road/street courses.

Henin drilled Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia 6-2, 6-2 at the beautiful Indian Wells Tennis Garden. The Belgian was playing her first tennis since losing to Serena Williams in the Aussie Open final.
