A few weeks ago the SEC West clash between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Texas AM Aggies had all the makings of an epic college football game. After consecutive losses, though, the Aggies are now in survival mode and need a major upset to avoid hitting the .500 mark.

There have been no problems for the Tide as they continued their mastery over conference foes with a 42-21 smackdown of Ole Miss last week, covering the 15-point closing line for their second straight ATS win. Bama won the previous eight meetings scoring at least 45 points in each of the last three games. The Tide opened as an 17.5-point favorite on the college football betting line.

The Week 6 college football game between the Alabama Crimson Tide and Texas AM Aggies will take place at Kyle Field in College Station, TX at 8 p.m. ET on Saturday, October 9, 2021 and will be televised on CBS.

Odds Analysis

Right now there isn’t a lot of faith in the Aggies, who have fallen on hard times after upset losses to Arkansas and Mississippi State dropped them to 3-2 SU and 2-3 ATS. And unless they find a way to be more productive on offense a 3-3 record is the likely scenario. An easy slate to open the year had folks overreacting to the Aggies, who once again look to be a middle of the pack club in the SEC West. Beating the No. 1 ranked team would be huge, but the Aggies have dropped four in a row at home to Bama getting outscored by nearly two touchdowns.

Being a massive favorite is nothing new for the Crimson Tide, who have spotted opponents at least two touchdowns in every game this season. Going against a good Ole Miss club last week as a 15-point favorite the Tide covered in their 42-21 victory improving to 3-2 ATS with a second straight cover. Bama was favored by at least 17 points in each of the last five meetings and covered the spread in the last two. The Tide opened laying 17.5-points with that number quickly wagered up a point. The Tide averaged 48 points over the previous three encounters with the teams cashing the OVER each time. The total spiked a point to 52.

Alabama Crimson Tide

Alabama is the most balanced team in college football proving that once again in their win over Ole Miss. Bryce Young leads a potent passing game, but the Tide relied on the ground attack against the Rebels and the move was genius. Young was efficient completing 20 of 26 for 241 yards and a pair of touchdowns, but Brian Robinson Jr. was the star. Running the football to keep the ball out of Matt Corral’s hands, Robinson had a career game rushing for 171 yards and four scores on 36 carries. In all the Tide racked up 451 yards.

Kudos go out to the guys on the other side of the football. Bama was gouged by Corral and the Rebels last year and made sure that didn’t happen again. They bottled up the Heisman favorite limiting him to 213 passing yards and three rushing yards on 10 carries. Ole Miss finished with 200 fewer yards than their season average. Texas AM isn’t as potent leaving the door open for another strong outing by the defense.

Texas AM Aggies

A preseason top-10 the Aggies are now out of the national rankings. Favored by 4.5 points the Aggies were dominated up front by Arkansas in a 20-10 setback ending their 11-game winning streak. That may have had a carryover to last week’s home defeat to Mississippi State as a 7-point favorite. Not being able to hold up against lesser competition doesn’t bode well for the Aggies against the Tide. Not only has AM lost eight in a row in the seres, they been blown out in a number of those games.

The Aggies have played well on defense allowing an average of just 12.6 points. They surrendered a total of 46 points over the last two games, though, with an uptick in competition. Shutting down Alabama is impossible so the offense needs to be better. That starts with Zach Calzeda. He threw for 135 yards with a touchdown, but a few costly errors aided MSU. The unit hasn’t been able to sustain anything and trying to penetrate the Bama crew is a chore that’s nearly impossible. They play the games for a reason, though, and Jimbo Fisher said his club remains upbeat.

Our Prediction: Texas AM Aggies +18.5 and UNDER 52

Alabama vs Texas AM Prediction

This game has potential to be a dogfight even though the Aggies are reeling. They have to step it up on both sides of the football or things will be much worse than the previous two losses. It is a home game for AM, but that didn’t mean much last week and has meant less in this series.

The Tide showed they can win running the football, which has been about their only weakness. The Aggies will have to play keep away much like Bama did last week to have any chance. That gives a lot of value to the UNDER, which is 4-1 in Texas AM games this season.

Our Prediction: Texas AM Aggies +18.5 and UNDER 52
