Coming off their bye the San Francisco 49ers look to end a three-game SU and ATS losing streak when they host the Indianapolis Colts in the Week 7 edition of Sunday Night Football. The time off came at a good time for the Niners since both their quarterbacks were a little banged up.

Rookie Trey Lance made his first start in the previous game, a 17-10 loss to NFC West leading Arizona that dropped them further back in the division standings. Jimmy Garoppolo could be ready to return with the Niners positioned as a 4.5-point favorite on the NFL betting line.

The Week 7 NFL game between the Indianapolis Colts and San Francisco 49ers will take place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, CA at 8:20 p.m. ET on Sunday, October 24 and will be televised on NBC.

Odds Analysis

The Niners are getting the benefit of the doubt as the home team and coming off a bye. They hit the board laying 3.5-points with that number wagered up a point to SF -4.5. Last time out the Niners fell 17-10 in Arizona as a 6-point dog extending their SU and ATS skid to three games.

The first two setbacks in the current losing streak came at home with outright losses to Green Bay and Seattle by a total of nine points. Indy is coming off a punishing 31-3 victory over Houston covering the 11.5-points spread for their third straight ATS win. They’ve won two of three SU after starting the season with three consecutive losses. The total hit the board at 44.5, which would be the lowest in a Niners game this season.

Wentz has been solid in his first few games with the Colts throwing for over 1,500 yards with nine touchdowns.

Indianapolis Colts

The Colts had a nice rebound effort last week after a devastating overtime loss to Baltimore in Week 5 when they surrendered a 22-3 advantage. It helped that the Texans were last week’s opponent, but still a good sign for a team that looks like it’s trending in the right direction. There aren’t many players from North Dakota State in the NFL but two of them will be on the field Sunday night. And they may face each other as starting QBs. Carson Wentz will start for the Colts as he continues to resurrect his career.

After a terrible last season in Philadelphia where he lost the starting job and the faith of the organization, Wentz has been solid in his first few games with the Colts throwing for over 1,500 yards with nine touchdowns. The team ranks in the middle of the pack in the significant offensive stat categories with room for improvement, but the club is getting better. Wentz was efficient in the blowout of Houston with 223 yards and two touchdowns on 11 completions. More importantly he wasn’t intercepted. Wentz has thrown 124 passes without a pick over the last four games and has been picked off just once this season.

The offense also got a boost with the return of T.Y. Hilton to the lineup. Hilton had 80 yards on four catches last week in his first action of the season. The Colts forced three Houston turnovers last week and held the Texans without a touchdown to cash the UNDER for the first time in three games.

Jimmy G. appears poised to start against the Colts and he needs to play well for his and the team’s sake.

San Francisco 49ers

Since the Niners’ fairly new stadium is about 30 miles south of San Francisco maybe that explains the lack of a home field advantage. That and outside a Super Bowl run a few years ago, the team hasn’t been very good. Still, you’d expect a team to have a little more success in its venue. The Niners are 0-2 SU and ATS at home this season and they’ve lost six straight at Levi’s Stadium going 1-5 ATS in those games. Since beating Green Bay in the NFC Championship two years ago they are just 1-9 SU and 2-8 ATS in home games.

And they’ll enter Sunday night’s game with uncertainty at QB. Garoppolo missed the previous game with an injury and his replacement Lance was hurt in that game. Jimmy G. appears poised to start against the Colts and he needs to play well for his and the team’s sake. Three straight losses dropped them further behind in the NFC West and they have back-to-back games against the Cards and Rams looming.

Defensively the Niners have been strong ranking sixth in yards allowed and seventh against the pass. They allow a lot of yards on the ground and will have to contain Jonathan Taylor to improve their chances of winning. Taylor rushed for 145 yards last week and he’s fifth in the NFL with 472 yards along with four scores.

Prediction: San Francisco 49ers -4.5 and UNDER 44.5

Colts vs 49ers Predictions

This is a big game for the Niners as they look to end a losing streak and prove they can win a home game. The week off should help, especially at the QB spot and I expect the offense will open up a bit helping the home team to a cover victory.

Prediction: San Francisco 49ers -4.5 and UNDER 44.5
