An interconference matchup between the New York Giants and Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football concludes the Week 8 betting slate. Can the G-men actually pull off the upset? There’s always a chance and considering how poorly the Chiefs are playing there’s even a better chance now.

The Chiefs have dropped four of their previous six games and scored just a field goal in last week’s loss to Tennessee. Patrick Mahomes is making more turnovers than a pastry chef and the defense is one of the worst in the NFL yet the Chiefs are a 9.5-point favorite to even their record.

The Week 8 NFL game between the New York Giants and Kansas City Chiefs will take place at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, MO at 8:15 p.m. ET on Monday, November 1 and will be televised on ESPN.

Odds Analysis

Despite two straight losses and an overall record of 3-4, the Chiefs opened as a double-digit favorite. There has been some buyback on the visitors dropping the spread to KC -9.5, though it’s still the largest in a Chiefs game this season. KC has had a tough time covering at home recently losing all three games ATS this season while going jut 1-8 ATS over its last nine home games.

The Giants are coming off a 25-3 upset victory over Carolina as a 3-point dog ending a two-game ATS slide. The G-men have two payouts in three road games this season. The total dropped to 52.5 after hitting the board at 54.

New York Giants

The season would have a much different outlook had some of the early season losses turned out differently. The Giants lost their first three games of the season with the last two in that run by a combined four points. Since then they’ve been a .500 team going 2-2 with their most recent game a solid win over the fading Panthers. What made that victory sweet was the play of Daniel Jones, who may have found his groove with most of his playmaking pals sidelined.

With Saquon Barkley shelved and receivers Kadarius Toney, Sterling Shepard and Kenny Golladay, who have combined for 40 percent of the teams pass receptions, out of the lineup, the Giants scored more than 20 points for just the third time this season. Jones did a bit of everything against the Panthers throwing a scoring pass, running the ball eight times and even making a sparkling one-handed catch on a trick play. Jones showed off the athleticism that made him a high draft pick of the team and the successor to Eli Manning.

Chalk one up for the defense, though. The group had by for its best game of the season holding Carolina to 173 total yards, recording a safety on a penalty in the end zone and registering six sacks. They even sent Sam Darnold to the bench in the third quarter. “Today it came together for us defensively and we found a way to win. And now we’ve got to replicate that,” safety Logan Ryan said. It will be different against a team eager to get on the field after a brutal setback.

Kansas City

The Chiefs are entering unchartered territory since Mahomes became the starter. They’ve lost two straight games matching the longest losing skid under Mahomes. KC hasn’t lost three in a row since enduring a four-game slide during the 2017 campaign. Part of the problem leads right back to Mahomes, who’s had a rough time with turnovers this season.

Mahomes is now tied for the league lead with nine picks after throwing just six all of last season and 11 in the previous two years combined.

The QB struggled against the Titans with just 206 passing yards and an interception in a sixth straight game. Mahomes is now tied for the league lead with nine picks after throwing just six all of last season and 11 in the previous two years combined. Only four teams, including the Chiefs, have more than Mahomes’ 11 giveaways this season and the Chiefs lead the league by far with 17 turnovers. They are tied with Jacksonville for the worst turnover margin at minus-10.

Outsiders might think Mahomes lost his edge. After all he’s done quite a bit in his short time in the league winning MVP, a Super Bowl and getting a mega-bucks contract extension. But according to Andy Reid that’s not the case. The coach isn’t worried about how his QB will respond to the worst game of his career. “He’s not going to hide or shy away from anything. If there’s a problem, he’s going to attack it and work to fix it. That’s the way he’s wired.”

Prediction: New York Giants +9.5 and UNDER 52.5

Giants vs Chiefs Predictions

They haven’t faced many difficult times in the past few seasons, but the Chiefs have responded positively in those rare instances. Mahomes recently owned his latest shortcomings telling his teammates he has to be better, and I expect he will be against a New York defense that’s had issues.

And the Chiefs have beat up on the NFC East this season with cover wins over Philly and Washington by a combined score of 73-43. Staying within the spread is something the Giants can do if Jones takes charge and the defense steps up.

Prediction: New York Giants +9.5 and UNDER 52.5
