Seattle Seahawks vs Washington Redskins Predictions

Teams headed in opposite directions square off in the final game of the Week 12 betting slate when the Seattle Seahawks visit the Washington Football Team. The return of Russell Wilson was supposed to boost the Seahawks back to the top of the NFC. Things haven’t quite gone according to plan with back-to-back losses dropping them further off the pace.

The team formerly known as the Redskins put together its first winning streak of the season upsetting Carolina last week for its second win in a row SU and ATS. We also saw the line jump the fence with the Football Team now a slight favorite after hitting the board as a 3-point dog.

The Week 12 Monday Night Football game between the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Redskins Football Team will take place at FedEx Field in Landover, MD at 8:15 p.m. ET on November 29 and will be televised on ESPN.

Odds Analysis

The betting public tends to overreact when teams start slumping. Sometimes those concerns are warranted. It is hard to believe everything is cool in Seattle the way the team has played since Wilson returned. They were blanked 17-0 by Green Bay in the QB’s return, and the setback came after a bye making the situation even worse. Things weren’t much better last week in a 23-13 loss to Arizona.

The Seahawks have won at least nine games in each of the previous nine seasons, and they need to kick it up a notch to get to that level. As a result of the poor play even with Wilson taking snaps, the spread jumped the fence. The Seahawks were wagered from a 3-point favorite to a 1-point underdog. That alone probably wouldn’t be enough to cause such a drastic shift in the line. But toss in Washington’s recent play and you have a big swing. The former Skins upset defending champ Tampa Bay and followed with a big road win in Carolina taking both games outright after going 2-6 SU and 1-7 ATS in their first eight games.

Seattle Seahawks

It’s hard to imagine Pete Carroll on the hot season after all he’s accomplished. But coaches come with a shelf life and Carroll’s might be done. There were some rumblings before the season started with Wilson stating that he wanted out of Seattle. Everything is coming to a boil and if they don’t turn things around we could see plenty of changes for a team that’s been one of the best in the NFC for close to a decade.

Everything starts with Wilson and the season took a turn when he went down with a finger injury in Week 5. Seattle was 2-3 after losing that game to the Rams and things looked dire with Wilson missing games due to injury for the first time in his career. A quick return by the QB was expected to give the club a jolt after going 1-2 with Geno Smith calling the shots. That hasn’t been the case, though, with offensive struggles due to inconsistent and awful play from Wilson and the entire offense.

Wilson has completed just 51.5 percent of his passes with two interceptions and no touchdowns since rejoining the lineup. The Seahawks were outscored 40-13 in those games failing to cover both times. And it is alarming that Seattle has struggled on offense with the weapons they have. They rank 30th in total yards and 24th in scoring while converting just 32.4 percent of their third downs. As a result they’ve played below the total in eight straight games.

Washington Redskins Football Team

It looks like this is a thing with the Football Team. After a sluggish start last season Washington won five of its last seven games to win the NFC East. They probably won’t win the division this year, but they are playing better football and the results have followed. Both teams had a bye in Week 9 but Washington put together its finest outing of the year upsetting the defending Super Bowl champion Buccaneers 29-19 as a 10-point dog.

There was some talk that the Football Team would add a quarterback after Ryan Fitzpatrick was lost earlier in the season. Instead Ron Rivera stuck with Taylor Heinicke and his patience has been rewarded. Heinicke tossed three touchdown passes in last week’s road upset over Carolina and he’s completed nearly 78 percent of his passes with four TDs and no picks in two games after the bye.

It’s clear Heinicke has gained confidence and he’s built a rapport with Terry McLaurin, who caught five balls for 103 yards and a touchdown last week. Washington totaled just 33 points in its previous three games before nearly reaching that total against Tampa Bay. And their output in Carolina was the fourth-highest of the season.

Prediction: Washington Redskins Football Team -1 and UNDER 46.5

Seattle vs Washington Predictions

It appears as though Seattle’s flaws are much deeper than originally thought. Even Wilson’s return hasn’t been enough to change the direction. At this point in the season you are who you are, and Seattle isn’t very good. And the maturation of Heinicke has Washington playing at a high level giving me confidence to back the home team.
