Tom Brady has lost a few games over his career but few hurt more than the setback to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LII. The GOAT gets another chance to exact some revenge for that 41-33 loss when his Tampa Bay Buccaneers visit the City of Brotherly Love to open the Week 6 NFL betting slate on Thursday Night Football.

Brady had one of the finest games of his career last week to beat Miami giving the Bucs sole possession of first place in the NFC South. The Eagles ended a three-game SU and ATS slide with a road cover in Carolina. The Bucs have been favored in every game this year and hit the board as a touchdown favorite in this matchup.

The Week 6 Thursday Night Football game between the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Philadelphia Eagles will take place at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia at 8:20 p.m. ET on October 14 and will be televised on FOX and NFL Network.

Odds Analysis

Continuing a season-long trend the Bucs are laying 7-points on the opening line. Tampa closed as a favorite in its first five games with three of those reaching double figures. They easily covered the 11-point line against the Dolphins in their 45-17 triumph ending a 2-game ATS skid.

Overall the Bucs are 2-3 ATS. It’s been the exact opposite with Philly catching points in every game. The Eagles scored an outright 21-18 win in Carolina as a 2.5-point dog. Only once has the spread been lower than 3.5-points, though. Philly failed to cover the 7.5-point closing line in a Week 4 home loss to Kansas City. Tampa won and covered the previous two meetings with the last three games and five of six cashing the OVER. The total hit the board at 53.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Just when you think Brady has done it all he comes up with something we’ve never seen from him before. No doubt his return to New England was emotional and Brady certainly was affected by the hype. He completed just 22 of 43 passes with no touchdowns. His Bucs were able to make the homecoming a happy one, though, by eking out the victory.

With that game in the rearview, Brady and the Bucs returned to their high-flying ways against the Dolphins. For the first time in his career Brady threw for more than 400 yards with five touchdowns and the Bucs cruised, 45-17. It was good to see the offense get untracked after scoring a total of 43 points in the previous two games, one being their only loss of the season. They are averaging over 33 points with the OVER going 4-1. The offense struck a balance with 121 yards on the ground and 558 total yards.

We’ve seen the Bucs tighten things up defensively over the last two weeks. The unit was expected to be strong after a solid 2020 season, but they allowed an average of nearly 30 points over the first three games, including a season-high 34 in a loss to the Rams. They held the Pats to minus-1 yard rushing and 294 total yards two weeks ago and the Dolphins totaled just 301 yards last week. The Bucs allowed those teams to convert on just 4 of 16 third downs.

Philadelphia Eagles

If anything winning in Carolina has to give the Eagles confidence that they can come away with a victory when not playing a clean game. According to Nick Sirianni it was “the definition of a team win.” Jalen Hurts and the offense struggled much of the game against Carolina’s top unit, but the group came alive erasing an 11-point deficit by outscoring the Panthers 18-3 over the second half. The run actually started with a 58-yard field goal to end the first half, one of many special teams plays that led to the triumph.

The Eagles flustered Sam Darnold, something that won’t happen when they face Brady. Philly registered three sacks and picked off three passes, two by “Big Play” Darius Slay. The Eagles allowed just 267 total yards and a scant 3.8 yards per play.

The offense came alive in the second half with Hurts scoring the eventual game-winning touchdown with 2:38 left in the fourth. He also scored on a 1-yard plunge late in the third quarter. Hurts finished with 198 yards on 22 of 37 passing with an additional 30 yards on nine rush attempts. Running the football is going to be tough against Tampa’s top ranked rush defense and the Eagles will need help on defense and special teams, much like they got in the outright win over Carolina.

Our Prediction: Tampa Bay Buccaneers -7 and UNDER 53

Buccaneers vs Eagles Prediction

Seeing Brady light up the Dolphins with a bad thumb and the Bucs defense playing angry the last two weeks, I don’t like Philly’s chances heading into this one. Tampa will give Leonard Fournette and Ronald Jones more carries against Philly’s woeful run defense and the absence of game-changing plays from the defense and special teams will keep the score UNDER the total.

Our Prediction: Tampa Bay Buccaneers -7 and UNDER 53
