UFC 265: Lewis vs Gane Odds & Predictions

The interim heavyweight belt is on the line Saturday at UFC 265: Lewis vs. Gane. With a likely bout against current champion Francis Ngannou for the undisputed title up for grabs, the card is headlined by a battle between Derrick Lewis and Ciryl Gane from Toyota Center in Lewis’s adopted hometown of Houston. A total of 13 bouts are scheduled on the UFC betting ticket with odds for every fight available at BookMaker.eu.

The main event will certainly pack a punch, both literally and figuratively. Lewis (25-7) has knocked out more opponents than any heavyweight fighter in UFC history and is tied for the most KOs across all divisions of the promotion. And while Lewis is the more accomplished fighter he’s a +270 underdog ahead of Saturday’s showdown. Not to worry though. Lewis was a considerable underdog in a recent fight with Curtis Blaydes only to win with a vicious, you guessed it, knockout.

Not only does Gane (9-0) have the fight statistics, he’s an imposing figure in the octagon and looks to continue his meteoric rise in the division. He’s already won twice this year, most recently outworking Alexander Volkov for a unanimous decision in June. He also took down Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Junior Dos Santos in his two previous bouts.

The little guys hit the mat in the co-main event with Jose Aldo (29-7) and Pedro Munhoz (19-5) squaring off in a bantamweight scuffle. Aldo earned a unanimous decision victory over Marlon Vera last December for his first triumph since switching weight classes. Munhoz, meanwhile, has been a fixture among the top-10 and is looking for one last chance at climbing the ladder in the loaded division. Oddsmakers have this scrap as a close one according to the numbers. Both fighters have negative odds with Aldo the slight favorite at -120.

There is sure to be plenty of action inside the octagon and even more at the betting window with 13 bouts scheduled to make up the UFC 265: Lewis vs. Gane card on Saturday, August 7. The prelims and early prelims can be seen on ESPN and ESPN+ starting at 6 p.m. ET. The five-fight main card is available on pay-per-view starting at 10 p.m. ET. Betting options for every fight on the ticket are available at BookMaker.eu when you’re ready to make a wager.

I guess there’s a good reason if Gane appears distracted in this fight. Originally, Gane turned down the offer to fight Lewis with the birth of his child imminent. After consulting with his team, including his wife, he had a change of heart and accepted. Without a doubt his full attention will be on his opponent, but you have to wonder if he’ll be affected by his personal affairs. That hasn’t changed his status with oddsmakers, who positioned Gane as a big -365 favorite.

Gane is full of confidence having never lost a professional fight. He’s also a beast on the mat ranking highly in significant strike percentage and in significant strike defense. In other words, he hits opponents a lot and doesn’t take many punches. Lewis has elite punching power but lacks refined skills in other areas. A one-dimensional attack isn’t going to get it done against a well-rounded opponent who can defend.

UFC Prediction: Ciryl Gane / Decision

Michael Chiesa -105 vs. Vicente Luque -125

Something’s gotta give in this welterweight confrontation between top contenders. Chiesa (18-4) is riding a four-fight winning streak while Luque won his last three bouts by stoppage. Chiesa has looked increasingly like a top fixture in the weight class since making the jump.

He won’t outpunch people rather he uses expert grappling technique and superb conditioning to wear down opponents. Luque made another statement earlier this year with a first-round submission over former champ Tyron Woodley putting the winner of this fight within striking distance of a shot at the title.

UFC Prediction: Michael Chiesa / Decision
