The biggest win of the season for the Washington Football Team came with a substantial price. The team formerly known as the Redskins ended a four-game SU and ATS losing streak by beating the defending champion Buccaneers on Sunday, but the team lost Chase Young for the remainder of the season with an injury.

The blow comes at a bad time since the club had been peaking on defense leading to the UNDER cashing in four straight games. Washington goes for its first winning streak of the season as a 3.5-point underdog in its Week 11 tilt against the Carolina Panthers.

The NFL Week 11 matchup between the Washington Football Team and Carolina Panthers will take place at Bank of America Stadium at 1 p.m. ET on Sunday, November 21, 2021 and will be televised on FOX.

Odds Analysis

The former Skins got off the mat against the unlikeliest opponent, putting their 4-game losing streak behind them with a 29-19 upset win over Tampa as a 10-point dog. It was their first win when playing as an underdog and only their third overall this season. They improved to 3-6 SU and 2-7 ATS. Washington is catching points for a sixth straight game opening as a 3.5-point dog for Sunday’s tilt against Ron Rivera’s former club.

Carolina won for just the second time in seven games beating Arizona 34-10 as a 7-point dog. The Panthers had a season-high point total sparked by the return of Cam Newton and cashed the OVER for the first time in four games. Oddsmakers don’t expect a lot of points with the total of 43 the lowest on the Week 11 board.

Washington Redskins Football Team

Rivera has a history with both teams and recent results in the series haven’t been good to him. The teams have played in each of the previous three seasons with Rivera on the losing end each time. Washington posted wins in 2018 and 2019 when Rivera was calling the shots in Carolina. Last year the Panthers scored a 20-13 victory in Riverboat Ron’s first year leading the Football Team. And both teams enter this contest having posted impressive wins as big underdogs.

I was about to count Washington out after a four-game slide had them at 2-6. But if last year is any indication they are about to play some of their best football. WFT was 2-6 last season before winning five of its last seven games to claim the NFC East title. They probably won’t win the division this year with Dallas among the elite in the conference, and qualifying for the playoffs is a long shot. But the Football Team didn’t give up last week.

It was the most complete game of the season with the defense holding Tom Brady and the top-ranked passing game in check. Washington allowed just 220 yards through the air and intercepted Brady twice. The group has allowed fewer than 20 points in a game twice with both coming in the last two weeks. Washington will be without Young for the rest of the season, though, delivering a huge blow to a resurgent pass rush.

Carolina Panthers

With a record of 5-5 after their victory over Arizona, the Panthers currently hold the NFC’s last playoff spot. And the return of Newton gave the offense a much-needed lift with Sam Darnold done for the year. Newton played sparingly against the Cards but he made his time count scoring on a short run on his first snap with the club after signing mid-week and tossing a 2-yard scoring pass to Robby Anderson.

For a team starving for offense, the return of Newton is a big deal. The former MVP had his best days as a pro with Panthers leading them to Super Bowl 50 with Rivera as their coach. There was some speculation that Newton might reunite with his former coach for the QB hungry Football Team. That never materialized and the Panthers are happy it didn’t. With more time to prepare it’s expected that Newton will get the starting gig ahead of P.J. Walker this week.

Defense has been the strength of the Panthers this season and the group came up big to set the tone in Arizona. Granted there was no Kyler Murray or DeAndre Hopkins, but Carolina got a strip-sack, turnover on downs and interception on the first three series to build a 17-0 lead. The Panthers are first against the run, second in total defense and rank sixth in points allowed leading to the UNDER going 7-3.

Prediction: Carolina Panthers -3.5 and UNDER 43

Washington Redskins vs Carolina Predictions

He’s a few years older but Newton looked like the 2015 MVP against the Cards and his enthusiasm rubbed off on his teammates. With a new lease on (his football) life Newton is in a good spot with a team in desperate need of QB help. Throw in the contributions of Christian McCaffrey, who had 161 scrimmage yards, and Carolina has the makings of a decent offense. And I expect those weapons will be huge against a team missing its top pass rusher.

Prediction: Carolina Panthers -3.5 and UNDER 43
