Washington Redskins vs Las Vegas Raiders Predictions

Don’t look now but the Washington Football Team is quietly climbing up the NFC standings and is currently in possession of the final playoff spot ahead of their Week 13 matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders. Much like last season when the team formerly known as the Redskins used a late flurry to win the NFC East, they are at it again.

They won and covered for a third straight week putting pressure on the Cowboys at the top of the division. They haven’t had any success against the AFC West, though, this season going 0-3 SU and ATS against Vegas’ division rivals. Vegas is a 3-point favorite on the NFL betting line to win its second straight game.

This Week 13 NFL regular season game between the Washington Football Team and Las Vegas Raiders will take place at Allegiant Field in Las Vegas, NV at 4:05 p.m. ET on Sunday, December 5, 2021 and will be televised on FOX.

Odds Analysis

The opening line tells you just how close this game is expected to be. The Raiders are laying the standard field goal as the home team with little movement since hitting the board. Vegas is also fighting for a playoff spot and rescued its season on Thanksgiving with a 36-33 overtime upset of the Dallas Cowboys. The Raiders were catching 7-points on the closing line breaking a 3-game SU and ATS skid.

The Raiders are 0-2 SU and ATS in their last two home games getting outscored 73-27. Overall they are 6-5 SU and 5-6 ATS. Washington posted its third straight upset win knocking off Seattle 17-15 on Monday night. The spree started with a 29-19 win over defending Super Bowl champ Tampa Bay. Washington has played below the closing total in five of its previous six games with the total for this one at 49.

Washington Redskins Football Team

There’s something about the second half of the season that gets the Football Team going. They won five of seven last season to win the NFC East crown, albeit with a losing record, and they won their third straight with Monday’s decision over Seattle. It still doesn’t make up for the four-game skid the team endured during October, which put them in a deep hole. But with Dallas struggling, the former Skins are feeling like they are in the race.

Part of that has to do with the maturation of Taylor Heinicke. The backup turned starter was efficient against Seattle throwing for 223 yards and a touchdown. It was the ground game that did most of the damage, though. With Antonio Gibson rushing for 111 yards, the Football Team amassed 152 yards controlling the game with 43 rush attempts. Washington possessed the football for nearly 42 minutes.

A similar outing would go a long way toward beating the Raiders, who rank 25th against the run. Lately the defense has looked a lot like it did last season. The unit held Seattle to just 34 yards on the ground and 267 total yards. The pass defense will have to tighten up against Vegas’ second-ranked attack and limit Derek Carr.

Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders might have saved their season with last week’s win in Dallas. The wheels were coming off with three straight losses that dropped them from the top spot in the division. The AFC playoff race is so tight that a lengthy skid could eliminate teams from contention. Vegas regrouped after those losses and got plenty of help from the Cowboys in the 36-33 win.

After three disappointing games from Carr and the offense, the group had a field day in Dallas. Carr threw for 373 yards and Josh Jacobs rushed for 87 more as the Raiders amassed 509 total yards. And they still needed a pass interference penalty on a third and 18 in overtime to set up for the win. They struggled to move and score the football in their tree previous games totaling just 43 points.

The loss of Chase Young and a suspect secondary means Carr can go off once again. The WTF has struggled to defend against the pass giving up nearly 267 yards per outing, a number Carr has exceeded eight times. The Raiders cashed the OVER in Dallas and they’ve played over the closing total in four of their last six games.

Prediction: Washington Redskins Football Team +3 and UNDER 49

Redskins vs Las Vegas Raiders Prediction

This game should be as close as the oddsmakers expect. Both teams are coming off big wins last week, but the Football Team is playing better overall and Heinicke has blossomed into a decent player. He doesn’t run the ball a lot, but he is elusive and will give the Raiders pass rush something to think about. I like Washington and I expect they’ll continue to roll with another upset victory.
