Washington Redskins vs Philadelphia Eagles Predictions

A loss to first-place Dallas last week likely cost the Washington Football Team a chance to repeat as division champs. But they are still in the playoff picture with another crucial game against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 15. Both teams have identical 6-7 records with the team formerly known as the Redskins currently holding down the seventh and final playoff seed in the NFC.

Things will change weekly with six teams at either six or seven wins in the congested conference standings and only two postseason spots available. This is the first of two games in three weeks between the teams with the Eagles positioned as a 5-point favorite on the NFL betting line.

Odds Analysis

The early line had the Eagles laying 2.5-points, but that number was quickly wagered up to Philly -5 following Washington’s performance on Sunday and the potential loss of several key players. While the Football Teams was losing to Dallas, the Eagles had a bye to rest up for the final push. Washington saw its four-game SU and ATS winning streak end handing backers a bad beat in the process.

Closing as a 6.5-point dog, they scored a late touchdown only to miss the PAT. The game ended 27-20. The total was wagered down a point to 43.5 after hitting the board at 44.5. Washington cashed the UNDER in seven of its last eight games while the Eagles have exceeded the total in five of their previous seven games.

Washington Redskins Football Team

With a division title out of reach the Football Team has to refocus and think about what lies ahead. They are currently in a playoff position and control their own destiny. But they will have to do it with several new faces. The injury bug continues to plague the club with several players injured last week and others placed on the COVID list.

Ron Rivera refuses to use injuries as an excuse and so do the players. Taylor Heinicke and Terry McLaurin left last week’s game with injuries and are listed as questionable, though Heinicke said he will play on Sunday. Eight of the 13 players currently on IR were starters or key backups when the season started.

Injuries may be an issue but they had nothing to do with the team’s pitiful performance in a huge divisional game on Sunday. With a chance to close the gap in the NFC East, Washington fell behind 24-0 and never really threatened, though the final score made it look that way.

Heinicke has had some good games and bad games, Sunday was a bad day. He completed 11 of 25 for 122 yards and a touchdown. But he was sacked four times and turned the ball over twice. And turnovers have plagued the Football Team all season with at least one giveaway in all but one game. They coughed it up a season-high four times on Sunday and rank 27th with a minus-7 turnover differential.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles entered their bye off a 33-18 pasting of the Jets, their third win in four games, and watched the rest of the conference duke it out. You’ll hear all kinds of talk about a team’s bye, but in this case it couldn’t have come at a better time. With the Eagles in the thick of the playoff hunt they were one of the last teams to have an off week.

And with the amount of injuries teams have to deal with some down time before the final four games of the campaign is huge. It’s especially big for the Eagles who got some time to heal injuries to Jalen Hurts and Miles Sanders. The pair has combined to rush for 1,273 yards with Philly having the No. 1 ranked rush offense in the NFL averaging 160 yards.

The key to beating the Eagles is simple: stop the run. But that’s easier said than done. Hurts has shown he can run the football, but he still lacks in the passing game. He hasn’t thrown for more than 178 yards in any of his previous five starts and averages just 203 yards a game.

Could there be a QB controversy in Philly after Gardner Minshew was 20 of 25 for 242 yards and two touchdowns against the Jets? Probably not. But there would be less hesitation to make a change if Hurts and the offense struggle.

Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles -5 and OVER 43.5

Redskins vs Eagles Predictions

I have a feeling the curtain has come down on the WFT’s season. Not only was last week’s loss bad they sustained some injuries that will impact them the rest of the season. They have been strong defensively, but with Jonathan Allen on the COVID list the line is thin and the overall depth depleted. And Washington has a hard time valuing the football, something they won’t be able to maneuver around any longer.

Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles -5 and OVER 43.5
