Dallas Mavericks vs Golden State Warriors Predictions

Two of the top scorers in the game lead their respective teams into a primetime Western Conference showdown on Saturday. The Dallas Mavericks got 53 points from Luka Doncic in a win over Detroit on Monday, their second in three games following a stretch where they dropped five of six. Though not as flamboyant, Golden State Warriors sharp shooter Stephen Curry had three consecutive games of at least 34 points before scoring 29 in an OT loss to Minnesota on Wednesday stopping a three-game winning streak. The Warriors won all three games at home in last season’s Western Conference Final, including the series clincher in Game 5, but it was the Mavs getting a payout win in the first meeting back in November.

The matchup between the Mavericks and Warriors takes place on Saturday, February 4, 2023 and will air live on ABC with tip off at 8:30 p.m. ET from Chase Center in San Francisco, CA. BookMaker.eu will have betting options for every game on the NBA schedule.

A packed Western Conference is keeping a lot of teams in the playoff/play-in hunt. Following their win over Detroit, the Mavs moved ahead of Golden State into a top-6 slot while the Dubs fell into a tie for seventh a half game behind Dallas and Minnesota. Nine teams have between 29 and 25 wins with another two clubs with 24 wins. Stringing wins together can boost a team up the standings while dropping a few in a row will have the opposite effect. The Mavs had their best stretch in late December winning seven in a row behind incredible performances from Doncic. During that streak he had three games of 50 or more points, including a 60-point triple-double against the Knicks. They failed to win consecutive games since then going 5-9 SU and 4-10 ATS.

The Warriors were hopeful their play at home would be enough to offset their struggles on the road. Overall it has been with one of the best home marks in the Association at 19-6. However, once they figured out how to win on the road, which they kind of did by taking four of six before falling to Minnesota, they zero-factored that by hitting a glitch at home preventing the defending champs from making a move in the standings. The Dubs lost four straight at Chase Center, including to Detroit and Orlando, two of the worst teams in the East. They did win their last two at home before their just concluded road trip. They have the fourth-best home cover percentage at 62.5 despite going 1-5 ATS in their last six home games.

Dallas Mavericks

The Mavs have enjoyed success against the Warriors in non-postseason action. They’ve won the last three regular season encounters and six of the previous seven while going 5-2 ATS. With a trip to the NBA Finals on the line last May, the Mavs couldn’t continue the run losing the series in five games. Behind 41 points from Doncic in the first meeting this season, the Mavs pulled out a 116-113 payout win. And Doncic has been the key to any success the club has had this season.

MVP’s are typically members of a successful team. The Mavs are two games above .500, but Doncic’s contributions can’t be overlooked. He’s been battling for the NBA scoring lead all season currently averaging 33.4 points. He also leads the Mavs in rebounds and assists. He put together the best scoring stretch in NBA history during the team’s seven-game winning streak and the club suffers when he’s not around. His presence hasn’t meant much at the betting window, though. The Mavs have the worst cover percentage in the NBA.

Golden State Warriors

Defense and the inability to hold fourth quarter leads have plagued the defending champs. With a lineup as intact as it’s been nearly the entire season, the Warriors ran off three consecutive wins and won two in a row on the road for the first time. Prior to the streak they blew a 10-point fourth quarter lead in a loss to the Nets and nearly let a 20-point lead slip away before holding on against OKC. They weren’t so lucky against Minnesota scoring just 17 fourth quarter points and blowing an 11-point advantage eventually losing in overtime.

Offense usually isn’t the issue with Curry, Klay Thompson and Jordan Poole all averaging more than 20 points. The Warriors rank third with 118 points per game. They allowed at least 117 points in five straight games and eight of nine with the OVER going 5-3-1. They have an even point differential making them one of the most profitable teams with an OVER percentage of 59.2, fourth-highest in the NBA.

Mavericks at Warriors Prediction

The Warriors, like most teams, have struggled to contain Doncic in past meetings. But the Mavs still need to find him some help. And they are suffering with second-leading scorer Christian Wood sidelined. Wood is also a defensive presence that you need against the Dubs and without him we could see points scored. Golden State’s home record coupled with the Mavs’ struggles on the road has me leaning toward the home team.
