Odds on Chuck Pagano, Marvin Lewis and Ben McAdoo Being Fired during 2017 Season

We’re still not even a quarter of the way through the 2017 NFL regular season, and there is already plenty of grumbling about some of the coaches who are sitting on toasty seats. Rare is the coach that is fired this early in the campaign, but BookMaker.eu has already released odds on three of the coaches who are on the hottest seats in the country and whether they will or will not be fired before season’s end.

Chuck Pagano – Indianapolis Colts

If we’re being honest, Pagano should have never been retained for this season. The Colts have horribly wasted much of Andrew Luck’s prime, and they’re going in the wrong direction for sure. Pagano didn’t take the ultimate fall for the team’s demise; that fall was taken by former general manager Ryan Grigson instead. But there’s more than one cook in that kitchen in Indy, and Pagano was just as much at fault for not getting the most out of that roster that Grigson foolishly put together.

With Andrew Luck out at least one more week thanks to his ailing shoulder, the Colts are very likely going to be 1-3 through the first quarter of the year. The Titans, Jaguars and Texans are all trending in the right direction, and there’s a good chance that this team finishes dead last in the AFC South. If that’s the case, we’d say there’s a reasonable chance that Jim Irsay gets tired of waiting on Pagano and fires him before the end of the year.

There’s a reason why Pagano is the biggest favorite to get fired before season’s end at +200.

Marvin Lewis – Cincinnati Bengals

Another man with nine lives. The Bengals have still never won a playoff game under Lewis, yet he’s managed to keep this job since 2003. He’s the longest tenured coach in the NFL aside from Bill Belichick, and no man has kept the position as head coach of the Bengals as long as he has.

But it’s time to go, and the brass in the Queen City really knows it. For as much as they wanted to have Lewis ultimately work out, it just hasn’t happened.

Two games into the season, Lewis had to fire offensive coordinator Ken Zampese after the team failed to score a single touchdown. This team has tried so hard to infuse talent into this offense through the NFL Draft, bringing in Andy Dalton, A.J. Green, Joe Mixon, Tyler Boyd, John Ross, Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill just in the last handful of years.

It just hasn’t worked out, and as a result, Lewis is +210 to be fired before the end of the season. Losing this week to Cleveland could expedite that process.

Ben McAdoo – New York Giants

The NFL is a tough place. Unfortunately for Ben McAdoo, the Big Apple is a much tougher place, especially when you’re losing.

The Giants are 0-4, and they haven’t scored more than 24 points in a game since Week 12 of last season, including an eight-game stretch scoring fewer than 20 points. That run marked the longest stretch of offensive futility for the franchise since the Joe Pisarcik era in the 1970s.

Still, let’s remember that McAdoo was a rookie coach last year who brought the Giants to the playoffs and beat a 13-3 Dallas team twice in the regular season. The oddsmakers noted that with their initial lines after Week 3, making him +1000 to be fired before the end of the regular season. Following a Week 4 loss to Tampa Bay, McAdoo’s price to be fired before the end of the 2017 campaign dropped sharply as low as +175 before steadying at +200.
