Packers vs Bears Odds and Predictions

Packers and Bears Renew Ancient Rivalry for NBC Sunday Night!

The Chicago Bears and Green Bay Packers have a special place in pro football history.  That is because the Bears and Packers own the NFL’s oldest rivalry.  Many of the greatest names in football took part in this classic series.  Bears founder, player, owner, general manager and coach George Halas along with Packers legendary coach Vince Lombardi are on the NFL’s Mount Rushmore.  But from that point their differences begin.  Green Bay is a perennial NFL odds favorite and Super Bowl contender.  While Chicago muddles around mediocrity most seasons.  Defensively the Bears remain one of pro football’s best.  However, on offense they are a disaster.  Chicago coach Matt Nagy arrived with strong offensive credentials.  His potential firing will be due to his inability to fix the Bears hibernating attack and develop a quarterback.

For Sunday night’s matchup squares will flock to the home chalk Packers and Aaron Rodgers, which fits their comfort zone.  Oddsmakers are fully aware of this, however.  By contrast sharps will give a hard look at the Bears.  That is because this rivalry and the 8.5-points could mean enhanced value with the sportsbook odds.

Bears Offense Drags Down Playoff Potential

The Bears have lost four in a row with only one payout.  Chicago’s lack of offense has made them a Super Bowl betting longshot.  Chicago is 5-5 straight up and against the spread, with 3-7 under the total.  Overall, the Bears rank 31st both for total offense and for scoring while defensively Chicago is 9th in the NFL and 6th for points allowed.

Last time out the Bears lost to Minnesota 19-13 as 3.5-point Monday Night home dogs as under the total of 44.5 paid as well.  Chicago was outgained 385 to 149 in total yards and quarterback Nick Foles could manage only 106 yards passing.  Foles is likely to play Sunday despite a hip injury and ineffectiveness.

Packers Popularity Becoming a Drag on Their Value

Green Bay did not live up to its Super Bowl aspirations last Sunday at Indianapolis as they blew a 28-14 halftime lead in a 34-31 overtime loss.  Four Green Bay turnovers proved to be the difference along with the Packers inability to run the ball.  As a result, the Packers are 7-3 straight up, 6-4 vs. the odds, and 6-4 over the total.  Green Bay ranks 7th for total offense and 3rd for scoring.  Defensively the Packers rank 12th in the NFL and 17th for points allowed.
