The Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees are both expected to be in the hunt for the World Series, but the start of the season has not gone as planned. Each team is several games under .500 and hopes to turn it on soon to zoom to the top of the National League East standings.

This is the best rivalry in the Major Leagues, and despite the tough early stretch, this game will be watched closely as everyone knows the Yankees and Red Sox will eventually rise to the top in the A.L. The Yankees have the home field advantage in this game which should make them the favorites to secure the victory.

The teams faced off on Tuesday and the Yankees came away with an easy victory to improve to 7-9 on the season. New York has a solid positive run-differential thus far, so it is only a matter of time before this team takes a big step forward.

The Red Sox have a mark of 6-12 after the head-to-head loss. They have struggled badly after winning the World Series last year and need to shake out of this malaise. The pitching has been the culprit as the Red Sox have given up a bunch of runs already.

Pitchers Duel – Eovaldi vs Happ

The Red Sox are scheduled to send veteran right-hander Nathan Eovaldi to the mound. It has been a horrible start to the season for him, as Eovaldi is 0-0 with an 8.40 ERA through three outings. He has failed to get past the fifth inning in any of his starts and gave up five earned runs, including a pair of home runs, last time out against the Blue Jays. Eovaldi has a career ERA of 4.23 so he’s not this bad, but he needs to turn it around quickly.

The Yankees will counter with J.A. Happ. The veteran left-hander has also struggled, as he is 0-2 with an 8.76 ERA and a 1.95 WHIP on the year. Happ has not gotten out of the fifth inning in any of his starts this season. He gave up nine hits and six earned runs last time out in a loss to the White Sox.

Both of these veterans are talented, but they have been knocked around to this point in the season.

Injury Report

Both of these teams have been hit by key injuries, especially the Yankees. New York recently lost star catcher Gary Sanchez to the injured list, where he has joined slugger Giancarlo Stanton, reliever Dellin Betances, shortstop Troy Tulowitzki and outfielder Aaron Hicks, among others. New York has talented players in its lineup still, but that is a lot of firepower on the bench.

The Red Sox are hoping to have star left fielder Andrew Benintendi available for this game. He has a foot injury and it’s a situation to watch closely, because he has the type of talent to have an impact on the game. Benintendi is batting .293 with a homer and six RBIs this season.

Red Sox vs Yankees | MLB Betting Predictions

Our best bet: Yankees -121 and OVER 9.5

The Yankees are banged up offensively, but they are at home and have the better pitcher on the mound. New York hopes this is the next step in breaking out of a slump, as it is the choice to come away with the win.

The starting pitchers have struggled on the year and it should be more of the same in this one. Look for both sides to score plenty of runs, which should bring the “over” on the runline into consideration.
